the ordained minister

I am sure most internet users have come across the latest controversy of Miss California's response to Perez Hilton's question at the Miss USA Pageant. We all know how I feel with my Milk entry, so I won't write out my thoughts. I was on Perez Hilton's sight today though and he found this information that I thought summed up a lot of what I tried to say myself in my entry RE: Milk.

So here it is:

Nicole Lamarche, Miss California 2003 and now an ordained minister at Cotuit Federated Church in Cotuit, Mass, is speaking out.

She says:

"As a pastor and a former Miss California, I am often asked to interpret what the Word of God has to say on a particular subject. I am quite confident that God prefers that we human beings stick to speaking for ourselves. And yet there are occasions when God’s Word is used as a weapon, and I feel compelled to speak.

In the past few days, much has been made of the words of Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean. She stated that marriage is between a man and a woman. I write not in response to her opinion, but rather about her comments that followed: that the Bible condones her words. She said, 'It's not about being politically correct, it's about being biblically correct.' While this sentiment is shared by many who seek to condemn gay people and gay marriage, citing pieces of the Bible to further one’s own prejudice fails to meet the Bible on its own terms.

Most people seeking to condemn gay people point to the Book of Leviticus, where we read that men lying with men is an abomination. However, we rarely hear of other verses found in the book of Leviticus that are equally challenging. For example, Leviticus also tells us that eating shrimp and lobster is an abomination. And that a person should not wear material woven of two kinds of material—an impossible mandate for a pageant contestant!

In Paul’s letter to the community in Corinth we read, ‘For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church….’ And yet these words have not prevented Christian denominations from ordaining women, such as myself. Sadly, the Bible has been used to further prejudice throughout history. We have used it to permit ourselves to enslave people; to conquer and kill; and to denigrate the earth.

The truth is that it is difficult to know for sure the intentions of the biblical authors, but we do know something about God. Those of us who know God through Jesus of Nazareth know that he went to great lengths to express God’s love to people who were labeled as outcasts. He spent time with children, prostitutes, and lepers, all of whom were labeled as outside of the grasp of the Holy. As we continue to seek God’s vision for us as a nation grounded in a love for justice, I pray that we might move closer to the cause of grace.”

I think she got out exactly what I was trying to say in terms of what the bible says.

Milk

This past weekend, I watched the movie Milk. This caused a lot of feelings for me. This post will most likely be lengthy, sorry in advance!

I wish everyone who does not understand or 'approve' of or like homosexuals would watch this movie. I think it portrays a true story of one's man fight for equality for all. One of the biggest disappointments I have of California like many others is Prop 8 passing. I think it is unfair in so many levels. I have respected other people's decision in their views.

However I can't hold it in anymore and pretend it's okay. It is NOT okay to treat anyone around you less than they deserve. We ARE ALL equal in this world and should respect those around us. What bothers me the most is how Christians emphasize what the bible says. I have read old testaments, new testaments, catholic bibles, non catholic bibles and they all say something about laying with another man, but there are so many other things in those chapters. For instance in one I found a few lines down that if a child curses to their parents, they should die. Wow, that would be A LOT of people. So my question to those who supported and still do support prop 8 and believe it because of the bible, why can you choose one thing it says in the bible, but not something else? To me, people are being hypocrites. Who says what you should and should not follow in the bible? The only person that actually followed everything in the bible is that one guy who then wrote a book about it.

This is my argument and view on homosexuality. I love God and believe that part of my duty in my life is to live as he would live. The Golden Rule, to treat others how you want to be treated. If I stand corrected, God will judge us all when our time as come. HE is the one who decides if we will inherit the Kingdom of God. Therefore, when did people believe they got the power to play God and judge those around them, by taking certain rights from them? If you don't believe or rather accept the lifestyle of homosexuals, fine don't. But I believe that NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO JUDGE SOMEONE FOR THEIR LIFESTYLE. Leave the judgment for God. To me, that is living as a strong Christian or Catholic. To me, that is living as God would, that is treating others how God would treat others. Love thy neighbor like yourself, right? Yes, no matter what. If you judge those then I don't see you reflecting God. I see you leading to a temptation of judging someone else.

If you know someone who is gay and you believe God made a mistake on them and they need to be fixed, I ask you this. God is perfect right? But if he made a mistake, then he made a HUGE mistake, because a large porportion of our country is homosexual. So could it really be a mistake of God? I believe no. A test of God to make sure you treat all those equal and that he will make a final judgement on each individual.

I am sorry if this upset anyone or taken the wrong way. These are my beliefs and I finally decided to write them out. I just don't believe passing this proposition will protect our children, because like Harvey Milk said "how do you teach homosexuality?"

Between the wedding and Easter I feel like I have gained the weight of a small child. hahahah.

Sonic

So I always want to post about this, but then I always forget. Anyways, you know what commercial I see all the time? SONIC. I saw them a lot when up north for school too, but no one ever knew where one was. So today, I finally googled it and there is one 37 miles from me in Palmdale.

It makes me feel better to know that there is actually one around here, but I still think they have WAY TO MANY COMMERCIALS!
